New Day Academy-Shasta is dedicated to supporting student success!

Our school is dedicated to helping students become competent, contributing members of society, equipped with the reading, writing, mathematical, technological and problem-solving skills necessary for success in a rapidly changing world. Our school delivers an individualized curriculum emphasizing the development of strong core learning competencies, knowledge and attributes necessary to lead a fulfilling and successful life. Particular attention is focused on four core curricular areas: English/Language Arts, Mathematics, History/Social Science, and Science. The school centers its efforts and resources on students who learn best independently and have a supportive home environment.

Our Learning Model:

 

NDA-Shasta provides a Personalized Learning program that follows California Independent Study law and regulations, including state independent study attendance accounting. 

NDA-Shasta are committed to assisting parents who choose the independent study/homeschool model for their children.

Customized Learning Team

To facilitate success, each student is assigned a credentialed teacher that works with the parent/guardian and student to create a personalized learning program based on student strengths, needs, and interests. A learning team, consisting of the assigned Teacher, parent/guardian and the student uses a variety of curriculum resources and methodologies to help students reach learning goals. The instruction is provided in various settings, including homes, learning centers, community sites or a combination of these locations. 

Varied Instruction Methods

 

Staff members use a variety of delivery methods that include, but are not limited to: face-to-face individualized instruction, independent learning, computer-based instruction, on-line courses, on-line inquiry, school-directed workshops, tutorials and labs, as well as concurrent enrollment in junior/community college courses, when appropriate. All instruction is aligned with the California State and Common Core Standards. Learning plans include reference to these standards and are addressed in the work assigned to students as well.

Personalized Learning Plans

 

The learning team develops personalized, flexible learning plans to meet individual student needs and family schedules. Teachers interact with students and parents in regularly scheduled meetings, during classes, workshops, tutorials and labs, as well as in contacts by telephone and e-mail. The staff individualizes instruction while maintaining high standards and seeking appropriate learning outcomes for all students. Teachers combine a traditional academic core with the power of individualized learning in a variety of modes. Using and integrating different types of technologies with the curriculum, the staff is less restricted by time, place, or learning resources.

The goal is to engage students with materials and activities that maximize their learning styles and strengths. It empowers supportive parents to be active partners in the personal and educational growth of the child.

       

       

Curriculum Choice

Our school supports curriculum choice. Teachers will work with parents and students to choose curriculum appropriate to a student’s current ability level, interests, and learning styles.  Options include but will not be limited to:

  • State-adopted curriculum in core subjects
  • Standards based textbooks, workbooks, and study guides
  • Literature based curriculum that addresses state standards
  • Supplemental instructional materials to support textbook learning
  • Educational games
  • Teacher created materials
  • A wide array of books to supplement and support reading skills and to support topic investigation in all subjects

Graduation Requirements

 

Students in grades 9-12 must complete the following course of study, which results in the accumulation of at least 230 credits, in order to receive a Graduation Diploma. Credits are awarded as follows: Five (5) credits per course per semester. (A year-long course equals 10 credits).
